Lions, Bucs fail in basketball playoffs

Cameron Hadley scored 13 points and Trevis McCoy had 10 points and seven rebounds but Calvary Christian still lost to two-time defending class A champion Orlando Christian Prep 61-43 in the regional semifinals.

Mainland High School fell behind by 21 points and committed 18 first-half turnovers and lost to Jacksonville’s First Coast 80-57 in the regional semifinal. Daniel Reed paced the Buccaneers with 18 points while Cortez Davis added 13 and Jaylen Miles contributed 10.

Football

Atlantic High School and head football coach Toussaint Roberson have parted ways. Roberson resigned. In three seasons at the school, he led the Sharks to a 4-24 record (including 3-6 in 2009) his best season. The school will look in-house to find a replacement. Atlantic High Principal Ronald Pagano plans to name a replacement by week’s end.

Baseball

Trinity Christian Academy in Deltona named its baseball field after former coach Mike Maples Sr. He led the Eagles to back-to-back Final Four appearances and won the Class A title last season with the team before retiring. Health reasons led him to retire. He now serves as team manager.

Flagler Palm Coast High Coach Dusty Sims won his 100th game at the school in seven years last week. Sims has 140 wins in his overall career.
